I hear a lot of negative talk about electronic cigarettes. Lets start this article with stating the facts about tobacco products and compare those facts to electronic cigarettes. Before I go on I just want to state that I was once a smoker myself and I am not here to “bash” smokers because smoking is without a doubt one of the hardest habits to kick.
Cigarettes are the single-most traded item on the planet, with approximately 1 trillion being sold from country to country each year. At a global take of more than $400 billion, it’s one of the world’s largest industries. Cigarettes contain arsenic, formaldehyde, lead, hydrogen cyanide, nitrogen oxide, carbon monoxide, ammonia and 43 known carcinogens. Urea, a chemical compound that is a major component in urine, is used to add “flavor” to cigarettes. Cigarettes can contain more than 4,000 ingredients, which, when burned, can also produce over 200 ‘compound’ chemicals. Many of these ‘compounds’ have been linked to lung damage. Many people have read these facts before, including me and have still continued to smoke on a daily basis. In my opinion the reason for this is the fact that people crave nicotine, but not all the other harmful chemicals associated with cigarettes.
Now lets talk about electronic cigarettes. There is no tobacco in an electronic cigarette, instead drops of e-liquid are placed into a filter which are heated up by an atomizer (heating element). The heating element is charged by a tube style battery which is rechargeable. The end result is the inhalation of nicotine, propylene glycol, and water. When Now you say “is this nicotine water vapor safe”? Nicotine does not cause cancer or death. It is only one of 4,000 odd chemicals consumed in cigarette smoking and it is some of these that cause death and disease, NOT nicotine. Nicotine is part of the natural food chain and many people consume nicotine everyday without even realizing it. The other ingredient is propylene glycol. So now you ask “ what is propylene glycol “, propylene glycol is an organic compound that is colorless, nearly odorless, clear, viscous liquid with a faintly sweet taste. The acute oral toxicity of propylene glycol is very low, and large quantities are required to cause perceptible health damage in humans .Propylene glycol does not cause sensitization and it shows no evidence of being a carcinogen.
Comparing these facts leads me to a conclusion. Electronic cigarettes are not bad as certain people claim them to be when compared to tobacco cigarettes. Clearly there is a problem of a lack of information because electronic cigarettes and their benefits based on facts are much better for the regular tobacco smoker. What does everybody think of e-cigarettes and tobacco cigarettes? Have you tried any of them?
